| Write Into College |
|
|
Although we recognize that standardized tests are required for college admissions, we firmly believe that writing is a much stronger predictor of a students success in college.
Increasingly, colleges are putting more weight on personal statements when making admissions decisions. Unfortunately, however, many high school students never learn to write well, and their application essays often reflect this.
Our holistic approach to teaching writing enriches a students school experience by bridging the gaps in the school curriculum. We utilize actual writing assignments that are given in the students various classes as the basis for building overall writing skills, thereby fostering an awareness of writing across the disciplines and promoting a sense of achievement as students learn to recognize their individual strengths and to communicate them coherently.
This approach is consistent with the expectations of the nations best universities, many of which have implemented rigorous writing programs that students must take in their first year.
Since all of our writing tutors have been trained in such programs and have taught or are currently teaching university writing courses, by the time our SuccessLink writing students apply for college, they will be fully prepared, having produced their best possible writing sample, and having gained a tremendous amount of self-confidence in the process.
